So, we are going to answer a few common questions here but please do not hesitate to contact us or speak with your teacher before/after class.
WHAT ARE THE AGES OF A MIXED AGE CLASS?
Children newborn (weeks old) through five years old are welcome in class. Whenever you are ready to get out with your baby, you are welcome in class. Babies thrive in our music-making environment.
WHY DO YOU MIX NEWBORN-FIVE YEARS OLD? HOW DOES THAT WORK?
Children ages newborn-five engage wonderfully in this mixed-age setting. Younger ones watch and imitate older children and older children model and are leaders in class. All of our activities are age-appropriate, as children experiment and explore with the music while teaching themselves the best way possible--PLAY!
HOW MANY CHILDREN ARE IN A CLASS?
6-12 children. Sometimes auditing infant (under 8 months) siblings make our classes go up to 13 or possibly 14. Generally classes are around 10 children.
HOW LONG IS A SESSION?
10-week FALL, WINTER and SPRING. 6-WEEK SUMMER and a fun, 3-WEEK HOLIDAY SESSION: Seasonal Songs

Mixed ages: 45 minutes

CAN ONE PARENT BRING MORE THAN ONE CHILD?
Yes! Siblings love being in class together.
CAN MORE THAN ONE CAREGIVER ATTEND?
YES! Though we do have special 'familiy week' classes, caregivers are welcome to attend together--the more the merrier.
DO I ATTEND THE SAME CLASS EVERY WEEK?
Yes, you enroll in your class time and attend that class each week. It helps with community building in the classroom while routine and continuity are important for children (and grown-ups alike). If you ever need to miss a class, you are welcome to make-up TWO classes per term. SEE OUR MAKE-UP SCHEDULER HERE
WHAT IF I CAN'T SING?
You do not have to be an experienced or 'good' singer to have fun in a class. What we are trying to do is guide you through a community musical experience--one where your child can share the joy of making music with you, their primary care giver. Modeling the behavior of music-making by YOU is the most important gift you can give your child in the journey of becoming a life-long music maker. Don't worry! Children will get rhythmic and tonal accuracy from other sources, if you cannot provide that. But, there is research now proving that just because a parent may not be musical does not mean that his/her child will not be. AND NO ONE HAS TIME TO JUDGE YOU, everyone is too busy singing and having fun!
DO WE PLAY INSTRUMENTS IN CLASS?
Yes, we use a wide variety of rhythmic instruments to explore the various levels of the beat. Sometimes we sit and play and sometimes we're doing large, gross motor activities with instruments. They vary week to week and by the end of a ten week session, you will have played around ten different instruments multiple times (not including are jammin' "Play along" session when an entire assortment of instruments come into the space).
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO WE PLAY IN CLASS?
Music Together® draws primarily from their 9-song collections (containing over 200 songs) that contains music from our culture, in a variety of styles: folk, jazz, swing, blues, classical and many others. In addition, we have fun free dance and play along time where we play contemporary and other styles. Families can often make their own favorite requests for these times in class--it's fun when a child can recognize a favorite tune they dance to at home. Also, some caregivers may be musicians and play an instrument (or two or three). I welcome and encourage these families to bring instruments into class: we have had flutes, dulcimers, drums, auto harps, violins, guitars, ukuleles to name a few.
DO YOU DO THE SAME THING EACH TERM?
No. Our 9-song collections rotate every three years. Children that start when they are 8 months old will come back to that initial collection when they are 4. Imagine how different they will be when they revisit that collection again---it isn't the same, ever. AND we have new lesson plans and ways of presenting the songs in a variety of ways featuring different activities. We train hard and work hard to provide a unique experience to each session and even each class. Activities are often tailored in the moment to meet the needs of the class dynamic.
MY CHILD HAS SPECIAL NEEDS, ARE WE WELCOME IN CLASS?

I HAVE A VERY ACTIVE CHILD, I'M NOT SURE SHE WOULD 'DO WELL' IN THIS CLASS. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Children with a variety of learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and read-write) all excel in our classes. If your child needs to move around the room, we provide a safe and open environment to do so. New families sometime leave class and think, "my child was wandering around the room. They didn't 'get it' and weren't doing what the teacher wanted." That same child will leave class and sing the songs from class all the way home in the car or respond to other things at home that happened in class. Don't worry--they are 'getting it', by being in the space and just doing what they need to do in that moment and will show you--sometimes months later---that they were listening and receiving the musical information.
